The first step in the analysis procedure is physical examination which can be of large significance when testing. This will involve either taking some physical measurements such as length or diameter, or making a record of number of items. It may also involve taking detailed notes on the type of material used. Physical appearance can sometimes give an early indication of the possible drug/s that the patient is taking.

General Process

  1. Physical examination
  2. Subsample taken
  3. Sample Homogenized
  4. Aliquot removed from analysis
  5. Screen or specific tests
  6. Identification
  7. Quantification
  8. Profiling/comparison
